The eagle has landed in Amsterdam: Mad Dog Warwick 2019! From the guys that brought you the superb Schmetterling, the wild winemakers from Winningen, Madame Flock, this phenomenal natural Riesling has arrived. It’s a cuvée of three terraced vineyards along the Mosel – Mad Dog Warwick in Winningen and Dewy’s Drop and Mt. Lehmo in Lehmen – where the age of the vines ranges between 30 and 80+ years. Spontaneously fermented, short skin contact, 80% aged in old French oak, 20% in steel tanks, 10 months on the lees, no fining or filtration and just a touch of sulphur.
It’s lush and opulent, with a linear acidic backbone and amazing texture and depth. Expect explosive notes of green apples, honeydew melons, Meyer lemons, gummi bears, hay, jasmin and white pepper. Focused, layered and complex, yet ridiculously drinkable and enjoyable. But don’t take our word for it – try it for yourself and prepare to be amazed by this idiosyncratic Riesling. But be quick about it: as with all of their cuvées, the Mad Dog Warwick is made in tiny quantities and they’ll be gone before you know it!
Come by the shop (we might even have a bottle open for tasting) or order it online, there are even a couple magnums available.
