NEW IMPORT: Wachau’s Erich Machherndl

6 Mar 2021

Located in Wösendorf an der Donau, on the left bank of the Danube, Erich Machherndl represents the new generation of winemakers in Wachau – Austria’s most prestigious wine region. Young, confident and open to experiments, this 8th-generation Winzer respects the established ways of his predecessors, yet is not afraid to breach clichés and conventions. The farming is organic, interventions in the cellar are kept to a bare minimum – most of the work, he states, is performed outside in the vineyard.

He has developed his own signature style, characterized by purity, curiosity and a finely balanced mixture of innovative and traditional ideas. Focused, complex and elegant, his range of wines is uniquely distinctive. His grapes are manually harvested, his wines spontaneously fermented, always with skin maceration, and generally bottled without filtering or fining, with low or no sulphites added. In short: honest Wachau wines without compromises.

To give you all the chance to get to know Erich Machherndl’s wines, coming Sunday there will be a 10% discount on all of his cuvées in-store on Sunday March 7. Of course, like you are used from us, we will also have a few of his bottles open to taste. So don’t hesitate to stop by if you’re curious about his idiosyncratic style of Grüner Veltliner or his Pulp Fiction wines – his zero/zero range, which includes an insane Syrah (!) and a smashing orange wine made of Frühroter Veltliner, Weissburgunder and Gelbermuskateller.

Don't miss it - We're open on Sunday from 14:00-19:00 / 2PM-7PM
