Chardonnay Off-Piste 2022

A chardonnay that was actually supposed to be on old barrels, but winemaker Agustin no longer had any. So he put it on new wood and harvested the other half nice and early and put it on steel. ‘That way it will still be German,’ Agustin whispered to us. A great chardonnay that blew us away when we tasted it in the cellar at Carl Koch, full-bodied butter and caramel notes with something slightly oxidative. Now that it has been in the bottle a bit longer, the buttery has receded a bit more into the background and the apple, honey and apricot have come into the spotlight.
