Karl May

Weingut Karl May – Pure expression from Rheinhessen

In the southeastern part of Rheinhessen, in the village of Osthofen, brothers Peter and Fritz May run their family winery with a clear goal: to make wines that express their origins. No frills, no fashion, just pure expression of grape and soil.

A family with character
The May family has been making wine in Osthofen since 1815. What once began as a small farm has grown into a modern estate that effortlessly combines tradition and innovation. Peter works with precision in the vineyard, Fritz keeps watch over the cellar – together they form a close-knit team that works with conviction and respect for nature.

Organic and honest
All Karl May wines are certified organic. The brothers believe that healthy soils are the basis for lively wines. They avoid chemicals, let the yeasts do their work spontaneously, and intervene as little as possible. Their style is pure, energetic, and unpretentious – with wines that beautifully combine fruit, tension, and elegance.

The signature of Osthofen
The limestone-rich soils around Osthofen give Karl May's wines their characteristic freshness and minerality. The Spätburgunder – the house's calling card – combines German finesse with Burgundian depth. The Chardonnays are fresh but deep in flavor, made from French clones and aged in French oak.
