The grapes for the Village quality wines come from the best vineyards on the Petersberg in Gau-Odernheim. It is their origin, the soils and sites that give the local wines their unique character. They are the older vineyards which are selected in several harvest passes.
It is an elegant Pinot Noir characterised by salty minerality. Cool aroma with fruit of red berries. Fine, savoury spiciness with a lot of oomph and a good aftertaste. The oak is nicely integrated. The wine comes with a lot of presence and pressure on the palate, yet elegant and delicately crafted. Vinification: 100 % barrique
The fully ripe grapes are harvested by hand in several rounds. This is followed by a maceration period of 12 hours. Fermentation is spontaneous on the skins, followed by a standing time after fermentation of 4-6 weeks. The wine remains unoaked and matures 30% in new barriques, 30% in second-age barriques and the rest in third and fourth-age barriques. After 15-18 months it is bottled unfiltered.
