A wild cuvée of Müller-Thurgau, Riesling and Kerner, from a mix of terraced vineyards and steep slopes around the Mosel villages of Winningen and Lehmen. Spontaneously whole-bunch fermented with varying, short periods of skin contact (10-14 days for the Müller-Thurgau, 12 hours for the Riesling, 24 hours for the Kerner), then matured in a mix of used oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. Bottled unfiltered and unfined, with no sulphites added. The bouquet opens up with crisp apples, fresh herbs and a tropical touch, leading into a zippy fruit basket - with a subtle touch of yeasty funk.

The 2021er Schmetterling (butterfly in German), as it is referred to on the consumer label, with lot L-Nr: MF 001 2022 is a bone-dry blend of Riesling (60%) and Müller-Thurgau (40%) from vines aged between 7 and 70 years in steep vineyards and was fermented without intervention in a mix of tank and oak and bottled with no filtering, no fining, and with very little SO2 added (total SO2 is below 5 mg/l). With a slightly golden and cloudy yellow color, the nose is fully aromatic and offers a very pure palette ranging from aromatic fresh herbs, rose petal, yellow flowers, horsetail tea, rosemary, hazelnut, and dried orange peel, all wrapped into some funky elements of ginger and wax. The wine proves very subtle and light weighted on the refreshing and pure palate. Flavors of grapefruit juice, orange blossom, rose petal, and white peach interplay with zesty elements adding a great sense of freshness and dynamism. The finish is superbly light and evanescent. This Schmetterling shines through its purity and
aromatic finesse and will appeal to lovers of fine “natural” wines. Now-2026+
