The Mouzon-Leroux L'Atavique Grandcru extra brut is a cuvee in which the dominant grape is the Pinot Noir (65%) is supplemented by 35% Chardonnay. The grapes come from the grandcru vineyards in Verzy so from the hills of Reims where the most beautiful vineyards are located. Mouzon-Leroux makes very authentic champagnes with a focus on only high quality, as befits a Grandcru champagne. There is 100% vinification in oak barrels since 2010 and aging for at least 40 months so the must gets all the time to ripen. They work in a biodynamic way so besides no chemicals they also fertilise naturally and take the seasons and phases of the moon into account. Mouzon-Leroux has been a winegrower since 1776 and bottled their first champagne in 1930. Before that, they supplied the grapes to a number of different houses. In 2008 they changed over to biodynamic agriculture. The L' Atavique is dry Extra Brut champagne (2g/l) and is a beauty of a bubble. Dry, cirtrus, brioche and a perfect perlage in the glass. A pleasure and uncomparable to the mass produced champagnes.
