It's here: the JouJou Bojo!

20 Aug 2021

When we visited the Beaujolais in June, one of our most pleasant visits was to Thierry Klok and Sylvie de Visser of Clos Bateau. A few years ago, this Dutch couple decided to chase their dream and bought a beautiful, but derelict domaine in Lantignié, with the aim of making natural wine there. Within no time, they restored the mansion, built up the cellar and converted the vineyards to homeopathic farming. Despite having almost no experience in viticulture or winemaking, their wine tastes singularly stellar.

They put their first vintage out to market this year, launching their JouJou this summer. This Vin de France-bottled Gamay was grown on pink granite at 330 metres altitude, hand-harvested, semi-carbonically macerated and fermented with indigenous yeasts, before being bottled unfiltered and unfined. Elegant, energetic and eccentric, it’s insanely drinkable, yet highly intricate – zippy red fruit laced with fresh herbs, fragrant flowers and a touch of yeasty funk. Like Thierry and Sylvie themselves, it displays amazing audacity and wonderful joie de vivre.

Don’t take our word for it, but come taste their 2020 JouJou at the shop today. Or, if you’re not in the neighbourhood, order it online - link in bio! We deliver EU-wide, with same-day delivery within Amsterdam (if you order before 17:00/5PM).
